Let’s start with the question: how long do you sleep every night? Do you know that is it important to sleep, because:
- Allows your brain to build memory storage
- Strengthens your immune system
- Allows your body to rebuild tissue
But if you do not sleep for at least 7 hours a day, your body and mind will start to weaken. You will begin to experience weak memory and will get sick more often.
Put an end to afternoon naps. Taking a small nap during the day and especially after 4 pm brings a shift to your sleep pattern. Caffeine consumption is vital to loss of sleep. If you need to have coffee, then have it before 1 pm.
Do not ignore your body when you start feeling tired. Yawning is just your body telling you it’s time for bed. Forcing your body to stay awake after that time may lead to loss of sleep afterward. A messy bed promotes sleep loss. Prepare your bed beforehand, set the room temperature low, silence your phone, and switch off all the lights.
If you still do not feel sleepy, get out of bed, and try focusing your mind on something. It doesn’t matter if it is reading a book or watching a movie. Your brain needs to start feeling tired. Once it does, you will start feeling sleepy again. Do you have a sleep schedule? If not, make one.
Even if you find it hard to follow it, keep trying to adjust yourself to it. And eventually, you will build up a sleep routine. Most importantly, check your pillows and mattress and make sure they are not too old. They should be in good condition. And if your bed is not comfortable, ensure it is comfortable; else, these factors can too affect your sleep.
